Know and Believe in True God

Elijah is the Messenger of God. He proved to the false prophets that Yahweh is the true God. He is a powerful prophet of God. The heavens were shut at his word, and fire was brought down. He was taken up to heaven in the chariots. Altogether, the Catholic Church has taught by the universal and ordinary magisterium that Saints Enoch and Elijah were assumed into Heaven, and it teaches dogmatically and therefore infallibly that Mary was assumed into Heaven; that it is acceptable as a pious belief that Saint Joseph also was assumed into Heaven.

Ultimately, God protects the people of Israel through the prophet Elijah. God is coming to bring humans everlasting happiness. He will make humans live but not perish. God has plans for humanity to be joyful. Happy are those who see and witness the wonders of God, as Elijah has seen and witnessed. He has withstood the test of time as a great witness to God. Today, we need a witness of God to those whose faith is weak and wavering.

Are we ready to be witness to God’s wonders?

Gospel: Mt 17:10-13

Meditation

 The disciples asked him, “Why do the law teachers say Elijah must come first? “Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way, the Son of Man will suffer at their hands.” Then, the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist. (Mt 17:10-13)

We know that the expected Elijah was John the Baptist himself. Elijah helped Israel to turn away from Baal’s false god to Yahweh, the true God. Now, John the Baptist is preparing the way of the Lord, asking them to turn away from sin and believe that the Kingdom of God is at hand. Every prophet and the season of advent is to repent, believe and wait for the coming of Our Lord. We long to meet the Saviour. John the Baptist plays the role of Elijah, standing for true God. The child who will be born is a True God who will give us Peace and Joy.

Recall a time when you are expected to play the role of the great value of a prophet.
