Let us Share the Joy
Manoah is a man from the tribe of
Dan, the father of Samsons, and the judge. Manoah’s wife, who was barren, conceived
at the announcement of the angel. The angel said the boy shall be
Nazirite. Nazirite is the one who does
not drink wine, does not eat unclean food and does not cut his hair. St John
the Baptist lived likewise. God gives children to the barren parents and makes
them special. The child who was born to this parent was named Samson. We know
Samson for his strength.
The couple who does not have
children prays for the children, and they get children after a long time. Such
couples will be grateful to God and care for the child well. Children's gifts
to the couple are considered to be something desired and longed for. It is not
mutual love for the couple that is solely important, their love taking the form
of another human person with whom the love is shared. God's blessings should be
remembered and shared to make one’s joy double.
Do we share our joy of the
blessings of God?
Gospel: Lk 1:5-25)
Meditation
When his time of service was
completed, he returned home. After this his wife Elizabeth became pregnant and
for five months remained in seclusion.
“The Lord has done this for me,” she said. “In these days he has shown
his favour and taken away my disgrace among the people.” (Lk 1:23-25).
When Elizabeth conceived, there
was joy in her. She remained in seclusion for five months. In the months, Mary
came to be with her to serve her. The thoughts and feelings of Elizabeth were
one of gratitude to God. Humanly speaking, she was happy that her disgrace was
removed from being called barren. Becoming a mother is becoming fruitful. Being
a mother is giving life. We need to become life-giving people. Women can become
mothers by giving life to people by living like mothers in their behaviour and
attitude, and men can become fathers likewise.
Am I grateful to God for removing
disgrace from my life?
