Follow Jesus!
First Week Saturday Ordinary Time
Saturday
Year One
Heb 4:12-16
The Word of God is powerful. It
can do the impossible and transform people. Let us read the Word of God. As we
know, it is inspired and does immense good. Those who read the Word of God will
not go astray. It sustains in times of fragility and temptation.
Jesus is the supreme high priest.
He was born among humans and lived among them, knowing their frailties. Jesus
knew what it meant to be human. He will very well sympathize with us and lead
us to believe that we can overcome our sin and guilt and live as sons and
daughters of God set free forever.
Jesus knew what it meant to be human.
Year Two
1 Sam 9:1-4, 17-10; 10:1
Samuel Anoints Saul
Meditation
Saul, the son of Kish, had gone
to look for lost donkeys. Samuel was on search to anoint someone for the Lord.
On the first sight of Saul, the Lord speaks to Samuel to anoint Saul. He
anoints Saul with a flask of olive oil he carried, pours on Saul’s head, and
kisses him. He tells him that the Lord anointed him to rule over the Lord’s
people. The Lord blesses the one whom he chooses. The Lord loves and cares for
those whom he chooses.
The one called or anointed has to
protect the Lord's people from their enemies. The anointed has to rule over the
people of God. Anointing is not a power for one's name and fame but calls for
service and responsibility. The choice of anointing is by the Lord. As long as
the mission is of the Lord, the one who is anointed will be able to accomplish
the work of the Lord. Samuel kissed Saul after the anointing as Saul found
favour with the Lord and was consecrated for his purpose.
Do we take joy in accomplishing
our responsibilities in our workplace?
Gospel: Mk 2:13-17
Jesus calls Levi the son of Alphaeus
and follows him. The call to follow is great, but the life of transformation and witness comes after the call. Since Jesus ate with a tax collector, he was
said to be eating with sinners. Jesus loved sinners to remove sin from them.
The only way to remove sin from sinners is to love them and not their sins.
Give them time and patience; they will transform into wonderful persons.
The healthy do not need a doctor. It is the sick who need a doctor. It is not the righteous who need help but the unrighteous. Many of us fall into the second category, which is the need for a heavenly physician. Let us approach him and be healed of all our ailments. Jesus can heal sinners and make them holy.
Do we follow the call given by
Jesus?
