Have an Attitude of Gratitude!

First Week Wednesday Ordinary Time
Year One
Heb 2:14-18
Jesus becomes a brother, a
priest, a God to save us. The devil is present to take us away from God to
evil. Everyone is tempted and tried by the devil and the world. We fail, fall
and sin. The one who says that he/she does not go wrong is a liar and cheats himself.
Jesus, being born a human person,
experienced temptation in every way, but he did not sin. He overcame the
temptations in the desert. Since he himself was tempted as a human being, he
knew human frailty. He is able to help us in our weakness and forgive us so
that we can be at peace with God and one another.
Do we trust in the help of Jesus
in our weakness?
Year Two
1 Sam 3:1-10, 19-20
No one is born a hero or
spiritual giant. Everyone who becomes acceptable in the sight of God is grown
in the spirit of God gradually in the grace of God. God bestows his grace by
his selection and ample opportunities. Everyone has to be schooled in the spirit
of the Lord to be his prophets, servants and ministers. God calls us for a
purpose and to accomplish it.
Samuel was in the temple serving.
God called him, but he was not attuned to listen to the voice of the Lord.
Samuel thought Eli was calling him, but the Lord was calling Samuel. As Samuel
approached Eli a few times, Eli rightly discerned and directed him to the Lord
and asked him to respond as,
"Speak, Lord, your servant
is listening.” The response and prayer of Samuel is a very good attitude for
all of us to have and be open to the Lord saying, “Speak, Lord, your servant is
listening.”
In all circumstances, are we able
to say, “Speak, Lord, your servant is Listening?”
Gospel: Mk 1:29-39
As soon as they left the
synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Now
Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at
once. He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left
her, and she began to serve them (Mk 1:29-31).
Jesus is a miracle worker. Those
whom He healed were grateful. They manifested their gratitude by praising God, bearing
witness to Jesus, loving him, and serving him. Jesus healed Peter's
mother-in-law. She rose from the bed and served Jesus and his disciples. Giving
hospitality to those who did good to us is natural. There are situations in
life wherein those who have received blessings from God forget to show
gratitude. Those who show gratitude are doubly blessed, and their joy is
doubled.
Do we show gratitude to God for
the blessings we have received?
