Hope in God!
Faith and
hope in God lead us to love God. Abraham, the father of faith, hoped in God,
and God loved him. God tested Abraham's love and faith by letting him go to an
unknown land and sacrifice his son Isaac.
He went to an unknown land, but it was the promised land. He went to sacrifice
his son, but God provided a ram in the bush to sacrifice instead of Isaac. God
is trustworthy and loving God. God loves us immensely. We are unworthy of his
love but cannot but love by his very nature.
Do we
hope in God’s promises?
Year Two
2 Sam 12:1-7, 10-17
David sinned. Prophet Nathan makes David realize his sin
with Uria. God says that he is going to bring calamity to the family. Son born
of Uria dies. The Lord punishes and makes known his mistake to him. David says
to Nathen that he has sinned against the Lord. David feels sorry and makes
severe reparation, and the elders come to assist David. It is very important
that in one’s sin and guilt, elders' role and guidance are to return to God.
Maybe at one time or another, we have to play the role of elders to guide the
young to come back to God without losing hope in the mercy and goodness of God.
Do we assist fallen men/women in coming back to God?
Gospel: Mk 4:35-41
On that day, when evening had come, he said to
them, ‘Let us go across to the other side.’ And leaving the crowd behind, they
took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. A
great storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat so that the boat was
already being swamped. But he was in the
stern, asleep on the cushion, and they woke him up and said to him, ‘Teacher,
do you not care that we are perishing?’ He woke up, rebuked the wind, and
said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead
calm. He said to them, ‘Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?’ And they
were filled with great awe and said to one another, ‘Who then is this, that
even the wind and the sea obey him?’ (Mk 16:15-18)
Jesus was able to calm the sea
and winds. Jesus is the Son of God. He has power over nature, over the sea and
the winds. We submit to anyone who has
power. The power that Jesus had in him was
not human but God's power.
We believe that He is the Second
person of the Trinity. If we submit ourselves to Jesus, we are fortunate. He
came to save us. We will be safe if we are with Jesus. All the storms of our
lives will be calmed if Jesus is in the boat of our lives.
Do you know that storms come into
our lives to be calmed by Jesus?
