Keep the Sunday Holy!
First Week Friday Ordinary Time
Year One
Heb 4:1-5,11
Meditation
Keep the Sunday Holy!
God created the world for six days and rested on the seventh
day. Work is part and parcel of life. Humans are destined to slog and work and
earn their food. God, in his love, wants them to rest. The art of rest is to
enjoy life and to give glory to God for the wonderful creation he has given us.
Some people work and work and lose their sense of purpose. Try to keep the Lord's Day holy, and you will see blessings come into your life. A day of rest to praise God and rest our bodies makes us please God and be creative in life.
Do we keep the Sunday holy?
Year Two
1 Sam 8:4-7, 10-22
The elders of Israel asked Samuel
to appoint a king for them. They want a king, as all the other people have a
king. Their king would lead them and fight battles for them. Samuel tells them
the disadvantage of having a king. He tells them that the Lord is their king.
But they would not listen to him. The Lord tells Samuel to listen to the
people. It is a great act of God to ask Samuel to listen to the people's wish for
a king. God wants to listen to people whom he created and loved.
Listening is obedience. Our God
is God who listens to us and obeys us for our good. Our God gives us a chance
and takes humans into confidence. Our God is a synodal God who listens to us.
He made us in freedom. Humans are masterpieces of God’s excellent design. If
God places so much trust in humans, how much will he love and value us? Let us
give back that trust and confidence to God by putting ourselves in the hands of
God and not just on the kings and authorities.
Are we aware the Lord is
our eternal King?
Gospel: Mk 2:1-12
‘I say to you, stand up, take your mat and go
to your home.’ He stood up, immediately
took the mat, and went before them so they would all be amazed
and glorified God, saying, ‘We have never seen anything like this!’
Jesus was able to order the sick
and make them well. Jesus had the power to heal. He is a divine healer. Jesus
carried out the biggest and most significant healing by dying for us on the
cross. He is not giving us physical healing but healing for eternity.
By his crucifixion on Calvary, he
cancelled all our sins and illnesses. The lesson he taught us by dying on the
Cross is unforgettable, and it is a miracle and sacrifice for eternity.
Do you believe that Jesus has made
us well once and for all?
