Let the New Look for New!

2nd Week Monday of Ordinary Time

Year One

Heb 5:1-10

The high priest is chosen among the people so that he may not be the weakness of people. He offers sacrifice on behalf of the people. Jesus is sent by Father to be human and offer sacrifice one’s for all for eternity. His sacrifice is everlasting.

He offered sacrifice with loud cries and suffering. Though he was the son, he learned obedience by suffering and offering sacrifice for the salvation of humanity on the Cross. He prayed, Father, if it is your will, let this chalice of suffering be removed. As Father willed, he obeyed and died for us to give eternal life.

Do we know we have an eternal priest who died for us?

Year Two

1 Sam 15:16-23

Saul fought a battle and put an end to the Amalekites, but Saul's soldiers looted the place, the best sheep and bulls. They wanted to sacrifice to the Lord. Samuel opens the eyes of Saul and tells him that the Lord does not need sacrifices and burnt offerings. He loves obedience. Saul and the soldiers disobeyed the Lord.

Saul is made to realize his mistake. Saul seeks forgiveness. The Lord forgives him. God made his king over the people of Israel, but he disobeyed God and his instructions. As a result, God came down heavy upon him. The Lord was displeased with King Saul. Samuel goes to Ramah and never meets him again. The Lord was sorry for making Saul a king over the people of Israel. Let us be humble and live a pleasing life to the Lord.

Is the Lord happy with us and our way of life?

Gospel MK 2:18-22

The issue for the Pharisees was that John’s disciples were fasting, and the disciples were not fasting. Jesus told them that no one fasts as long as the bridegroom is with them. The bridegroom is Jesus himself. Fasting is important, but when the Lord is with us, we feast instead of fasting. The presence of the bridegroom is joy.

The old will go well with the old, and the new will go well with the new. The old for new and new for old will cause problems. Let us give up the old ways and look for new things. Let the new things come up in life. Young people know how to manage to live in this new generation. Let the explore the world. Let the old give freedom to them.

Is the bridegroom with us?
