Say Yes or No!
2nd Week Tuesday of Ordinary Time
Year One
Heb 6:10-20
We are not told to take oaths
on heaven, earth, or anything or anyone else. If yet all we take an oath, we
make it on those higher and more significant than us. In a way, an oath is done
as a final confirmation. Some people even today take oaths to settle the
matter, apparently. Oath-taking is not good, but we should settle the matter
with yes or no.
In this passage, God promises two things: God’s faithfulness and promise to Abraham and the reliability and commitment of the Word. The believers are also given faith and hope that point to eternity. These two things are important for spiritual life. Let us grow in faith and hope, which will lead to love.
Do we cultivate faith and hope in
our lives?
Year Two
1 Sam 16:1-13
Samuel Anoints David
Samuel anointed Saul as king, and
now he anoints David as king. David looked after the sheep and was not at home
with the father. He was called and was chosen by the Lord as King. Lord,
choices are not mistakes. The Lord makes a bold step in choosing people as his
servants to lead his people.
Human beings see a person's
external appearance, but the Lord sees the heart. We are well aware of David's
achievements and failures. The Lord loved David and transformed him into his
most loved servant of God. David loved God and prayed to him unceasingly. The
prayer and the repentance are great witnesses to the people of brokenness and a
path to return to the Lord as loving servants of God.
Do we allow God to act in our
lives?
Gospel: Mk 2:23-28
Then he said to them, ‘The
sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath; so the Son
of Man is lord even of the sabbath (Mk 2:27-28).
The Sabbath is holy. It is a day
of rest, meant to praise God and give rest to the body. On this day, we gather
the fruits of the week, look back, and plan ahead for the better.
There are many advantages to the
Sabbath. This does not mean it is beyond everything at the cost of humans. It
is for the good of humans. We may break the Sabbath for the good of humans. The
Lord breaks humans' slavishness to the Sabbath law and enables us to take the
spirit of the Sabbath.
Do I keep the law/spirit of the
Sabbath?
