We All have Share in the Common Priesthood of God
2nd Week Thursday of Ordinary
Time
Year One
Heb 7:25-8:6
Men in their weakness appoint men
who are weak as high priests to offer sacrifice for the law. God sends his only
Son to offer eternal sacrifice one’s for all for the whole of humanity. Human priesthood
is acceptable to God and people by law. Priests bring blessings to people and
offer sacrifices acceptable to God.
Jesus' sacrifice on the altar of the cross is an
eternal sacrifice—a sacrifice that united heaven and earth, the dead and alive,
the time to come, and the time passed. Every priest is a priest not only by law
but also by sharing in Christ's eternal priesthood. Jesus shares his priesthood
with his Apostles to continue the sacrifice he offered at the Last Supper.
Are we aware that we share in the
common priesthood of God?
Year Two
1 Sam 18:6-9; 19:1-7
Meditation
Saul was jealous of David, for
people were singing that Saul killed thousands, but David killed ten thousand.
Saul told his son Jonathan to kill David. Jonathan took a liking to David,
spoke well of David to his father Saul, and convinced him not to harm and kill
David. Thus, David lived free in Saul's presence.
Some people share their anger,
jealousy, revenge and sin with us. Instead of adding fire to fuel, let each take
a stand on behalf of the one in danger and deal well with the grace of God to
work for peace, harmony, unity and love. Today, people of this sort are
positive guides who are very important in life. A person can be in rage for one
reason or the other against his own dear and near one’s. It is the bounded duty
and responsibility of the persons who seek guidance to lead them on the right
path instead of a destructive path.
Do we speak well of people in
trouble?
Gospel: Mk 3:7-12
He told his disciples to have a
boat ready for him because of the crowd so that they would not crush him, for
he had cured many so that all who had diseases pressed upon him to touch him.
Whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell before him and shouted,
‘You are the Son of God!’ But he sternly ordered them not to make him known (Mk
3: 9-12).
Jesus orders the evil spirits. We
are afraid of evil spirits. They trouble us, and they come to trouble us through
people. They draw us to evil so that we cannot resist them. Most humans fall
prey to evil spirits. Remember that in the end, humans will win over with the
help of Jesus.
We are saved by Jesus. At
baptism, we are anointed with the Holy Spirit. We only need to be open to the Spirit
of God and cooperate with Him.
Am I open to the Spirit of God?
