Form Healthy Consciences!

4th Week: Saturday of Ordinary Time

Year One

Heb 13:15-17, 20-21

Meditation

Form Healthy Consciences!

One should continue to do good. Do not be weary of doing good. Share those things that are with you. Pray that we have a clear conscience. Blessed are those who have clear consciences. Some people have disturbed consciences due to various reasons. Let one accept the situation; the Lord is the master of our conscience. Take care, trust in God, and move forward in life. One may use the sacrament of confession and learn patiently and gently to form a healthy conscience.

Can we form healthy consciences?

Year Two

1 Kings 3:4-13

Meditation

David’s Son Solomon was made king. God asked him what he wanted from him. King Solomon asked God for the gift of a discerning heart to rule his people. God gave him the wisdom to rule God’s people. He was known as the wisest of all kings. Since he asked for wisdom, God was pleased with King Solomon and gave him wealth and honour.

Today, we seek wealth and honour without seeking wisdom and discerning hearts. It is very important in life to have a discerning heart. Discerning the heart will enable one to know between good and evil, holy and profane. Let each look first and foremost for wisdom and a discerning heart instead of prosperity and comfort. A man of good has to look into his life and know what God wants him to do rather than what the world wants or knows. He must live the will of God only with his help.

Do we try to cultivate the discerning heart?

Gospel Mk 6:30-34

Jesus had compassion for the people, for they were visiting the place he was visiting. He had compassion for them, for they had no one to teach. The compassion is not for the broken and sick but spiritual compassion, for they have no one to instruct them in faith and love of God. We do many works of mercy, but they are not enough for human beings to long for the spiritual works of mercy. People must be taught to clarify their doubts and strengthen their intellect and will to live a happy and healthy life.

Do we instruct others to have a sound mind, heart and spirit?
