Do we Look for little Benefits!
2nd Week of Lent Friday
Gen 37:3-4,12-13,17-28
Meditation
Joseph of old was sold to
Ishmaelites. It was a good option that was suggested by his brother Judah. By
selling Joseph, they have done less harm, and they got twenty shekels of silver.
They have chosen lesser evil. Today, many desire to choose the lesser evil. Any way
the harm we do to others is harmful. The goodwill bears good results in the
proper time. God can bring good out of evil. Some spiritual writers say, ‘o my
happy fault.’
Needless to say, in the present
world, each one is selling his/her brother/sister. Each one of us is sold by our
brothers/sisters. The reason is we are too much for each other. We are busy
selling each other for a small benefit. The sale is on and goes on. We know
Jesus was sold by Judas Iscariot. You
and I are on sale by our own dear and near ones for fringe benefits. We are
unaware that an elder brother is keeping him/her on sale. Instead of putting on
sale each other, let us uphold each other in love.
Whom have I sold for fringe
benefits?
Gospel: Mt 21:33-43,45-46
Meditation
"Listen to another parable. There was a
landowner who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a wine press in
it, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenants and went to another
country. When the harvest time had come, he sent his slaves to the tenants to
collect his produce. But the tenants seized his slaves and beat one, killed
another, and stoned another. Again, he
sent other slaves, more than the first; and they treated them in the same way.
Finally, he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.' But when the tenants saw the son, they said
to themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him and get his
inheritance.' So, they seized him, threw
him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
Now when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those
tenants?" They said to him,
"He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and lease the vineyard
to other tenants who will give him the produce at the harvest time.” Jesus said
to them, "Have you never read in the scriptures: 'The stone that the
builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the LORD's doing, and it
is amazing in our eyes'? Therefore, I tell you, the kingdom of God will be
taken away from you and given to a people that produces the fruits of the
kingdom (Mt 21:33-43).
Being trustworthy is a sign of holiness. The tenants with whom the land was entrusted were unfaithful and wretched.
At the given time, the owner of the tenant himself will put an end to unfaithful
tenants. We are called to be faithful and bear fruit in the kingdom of God. If
we are not unfaithful and mean, we fail to produce fruit in the kingdom of God.
The Lord, in his time, will take away our assets and give to those who will
safeguard and give his produce in due to him.
Are we trustworthy ministers in
the Kingdom of God?
