We are God’s possession!
3rd Week of Lent Thursday
Jer 7:23-28
Meditation
We are God’s possession!,
of Israel were said to
be stiff-necked people. They were hard people. They were nomads. They were
moving from place to place with their flocks. They have no one place to stay.
They were exposed to sun, rain, cold and wind. They were hard people. God has
chosen them and he made them his own possession. God promised the people of Israel you will be my people, and I will be your God, but the people of Israel did not
heed him.
The People of Israel were hard-hearted. They disobeyed God, even though God loved them. They were said to be more disobedient than their forefathers. It is true that God found them hard. It is true of every group of people that they are hard-hearted with their ideas, views, and beliefs. It is not only true of many groups of people; it is the story of each one of us. Humans can be very stiff in their thoughts and ideas, even
refusing truth and goodness.
Do we accept that we are God’s
possession?
Gospel: Lk 11:14-23
Meditation
Now he was casting out a demon
that was mute; when the demon had gone out, the one who had been mute spoke,
and the crowds were amazed. But some of
them said, "He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the ruler of the
demons." Others, to test him, kept
demanding from him a sign from heaven.
But he knew what they were thinking and said to them, "Every
kingdom divided against itself becomes a desert, and house falls on house. If Satan also is divided against himself, how
will his kingdom stand? — for you say that I cast out the demons by Beelzebul.
Now if I cast out the demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your exorcists cast them
out? Therefore, they will be your judges.
But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out the demons, then the
kingdom of God has come to you. When a
strong man, fully armed, guards his castle, his property is safe. But when one
stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away his armor in
which he trusted and divides his plunder.
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with
me scatters (Lk 11:14-23).
Jesus has the power to cast demons.
The demons possess and lead us astray. The evil one can only be handled by the holy
one. The holy one of God is Jesus. Let us entrust ourselves to the Divine
Master Jesus to cast out the demons from us. The people of time attributed and
called Jesus himself cast the evil-by-evil power. The outlook of the people was
wrong, and Jesus opened their eyes and told them a demon would not cast out
another demon.
Do we let Jesus cast out the demon
from us?
