Do we Love God?
4th Week of Lent Thursday
Ex 32:7-14
Meditation
God is just like a human being.
He is a jealous God. He wants his people to worship him and no other. The
people of Israel, time and again, were worshiping other gods. God was angry
with them. He wanted to destroy them. Moses pleads with God to relent from his
fiery anger. Moses remained God the promises he had made to Abraham, Isaac and
Jacob. God is faithful to humans. He keeps his promises.
In anger, one may wish evil to the rebellious people, but in keeping with the promises and their good word, they let
people go free and wish blessing upon the rebellious and evil people. God is
faithful to his people; he makes them a great nation. The Lord wants his people
to be seen as a great nation. A great nation of numerous people who are giving
glory to God in cherishing their lives; immersed in the world, in the blessing
and graces of God.
Who are our other gods?
Gospel: Jn 5:31-47
Meditation
"You search the scriptures
because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that
testify on my behalf. Yet you refuse to
come to me to have life. I do not accept
glory from human beings. But I know that
you do not have the love of God in you.
I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; if another
comes in his own name, you will accept him. How can you believe when you accept
glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the one who
alone is God? (Jn 5:31-44).
Do we have love for God? We
humans love God because he is powerful and in control of everything. We love
God out of fear. Do we love God out of our helplessness? Yet, at the same time, it is true that we love God because we depend upon him. We need God and his help. Such a way of
love is only a business relationship. We learn that God is our creator. He
created us. We are in his loving hands,
loving heart, loving mind and loving will. So, we need to learn to love him
with all our heart, mind and body. This will enable us to give God true
adoration and praise and worship him in love.
Do we love God out of fear or
reverence, regard and love?
