Do we trust in God and others?

10th Week: Ordinary Time

Tuesday

Year One

2 Cor 1:18-22

21 But it is God who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us, 22 by putting his seal on us and giving us his Spirit in our hearts as a first installment (2 Cor 1:21-22).

God is faithful. What do we mean by the faithfulness of God? God will not abandon us. He will not leave us in the storms of life. He will not leave to the evil people and evil to overtake us. He will guide us and guard us. Let us remember that Jesus came to this earth as a human being, lived among us, showed the love of God, died for us like a criminal and rose to life never to die again but to be seated at the right hand of God forever to judge the living and the dead.

Jesus is faithful to us. His faithfulness is manifested in our lives. We have to bear witness to it. Let us recognize the anointment, he has given us through the sacraments and made us his own children.

Are we aware that we are sealed with the Mercy of Jesus?

Year Two

1 Kings 17:7-16

The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah. The Lord does wonders at the word of Elijah for the widow of Sidon. The faith of the widow is great to feed Elijah. The Lord is faithful to her. The Lord fed Elijah in times of famine, for those who trust that God will do impossible things. Let us place our trust in the Lord. As we put our trust in the Lord, we should also practice trusting those around us.

Do we trust in God and others?

Gospel

Mt 5:13-7-16

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. Mt 5:16

The Lord is inviting each one of us to be a light in this world. It is great and profound invitation. He is not asking us to merely exist, live and die, but to be a light and witness to the Gospel values -- a great challenge and responsibility indeed. This leads us to do good works in this world, i.e. to live a life of charity. Christian life is a charity in thought, word and deed. When we cultivate this attitude, we will be a salt and light to the world; salt gives taste to food, and light dispels darkness. Let us be salt and light in the lives of people around us.

Does my life give praise to God?
