2 Cor 12:1-10

Meditation

I Have Nothing to Boast than My Weakness!

St Paul speaks of Christ and his death on the Cross. He rose from the dead. He is alive. He is with us. St Paul was given the manifestation of the glory of God, though he was not worthy. So  St Paul says I have nothing to boast of than his own weakness. Though he was nothing, the grace of God made use of him for his glory.

St Paul prayed in his weakness, the Lord told him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” St Paul says, “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weakness, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities.  For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Do I know my weakness?

Year Two

2 Chron 24:17-25

Meditation

Zechariah, son of Jehoiada the priest, spoke God’s word to the people, but they did not pay heed. They killed him without even recognizing the good his father Zechariah had done. Time and again, the generations of people of God harden their hearts to the ways of God. God, in his just anger, punishes Israel so that they may know their creator and follow the commandments of God.

If one can praise God and keep the laws of God, he/she is acceptable to the Lord; if not one may have to face the wrath of God. Even the son of priest Jehoiada was killed in the bed by the Aramean army. The rejection of God and his ways leads us into difficulties in this world and as well in the spiritual life. One has to learn time and again to be faithful to God and live by his commandments of God.

Do we follow God’s laws due to fear or out of love for God?

Mt 6:24-34

No one can serve two masters, for a slave will either hate the one and love the other or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. (Mt 6:24)

It is a hard choice between God and wealth. St Teresa of Child Jesus seemingly said that I and Jesus can do little, but God, money and I can do many things. There is some truth in these words of the little Saint, who lived in the convent only for a short time and died young. At the end of the day, if you choose money only for money’s sake and not for the kingdom of God and the good of people, you will make money but will lose people and God. You will stand empty and broken. Choose God and money to serve God. May the Lord grant us the wisdom to handle money well and do everything for the glory of God.

“So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today. (Mt 6:34)

We know we need not worry, but still regularly succumb to pangs of worry. We agonize about little matters and unnecessary things. We try to control nature, and everyone and everything. In other words, we want to become little gods and be obsessed with everything.  We should rather do what is possible and leave the rest to God.  We need to depend increasingly on God. At the end of the day, we are human and thus need to be grounded. When we are grounded, we will not worry but live in the present. Being in the present is the way to happiness. Lingering in the past leads to worries, and dwelling on the future triggers anxiety.

Do I worry beyond my limits?
