Take Jesus into Our Boat!
13th Week: Ordinary Time, Tuesday
Year One
Gen 19:15-29
Take Jesus into Our Boat!
24 Then the Lord rained on Sodom
and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the Lord out of heaven; 25 and he overthrew
those cities, and all the Plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and
what grew on the ground. 26 But Lot’s wife, behind him, looked back, and she
became a pillar of salt (Gen 19:24-26).
The reason for the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was due to sexual sins, inhospitality, theft, idolatry, abuse of power, pride and mocking behaviour. The above-mentioned sinfulness of
humans is detrimental to spiritual life. Let us take care of our spiritual life
by entrusting to Lord’s mercy and desire for conversion and return to right
path.
Lot’s wife was a symbol of a disobedient woman. She was told not to look back, but she looked back and she tuned into a pillar of salt. Eve was disobedient by taking the fruit from the
tree of life and eating it. Disobedience results in punishment. Let us be
willing to be led by God and for God to send people. Be open to God and to the people with whom we live. Let us not have the fixed and closed mind set.
Do we have an disobedient attitude?
Year Two
Amos 3:1-8; 4:11-12
Meditation
Return to the Lord
The Lord will take action against
those who do not live by His Word. God created us in freedom, and instead of making use of liberty well, we misuse freedom beyond our limits. The Lord
repeatedly warns to take care not to sin and do evil to others. The tendency and
weakness of humans fail, and they go astray. Blessed are those who returned to
the Lord after a failure.
The Lord invites us to return to
him. Return to him would be to leave our old ways and come back to him to serve
him and one another in love. A transformed person is stronger than a lion in
his character and witness to Christ. Such people make tangible contributions to
the well-being of the community and the people in need.
Are we transformed people?
13th week Tuesday in Ordinary
Time
Mt 8:23-27
A windstorm suddenly arose on the sea, so
great that the boat was being swamped by the waves, but he was asleep. And they went and woke him up, saying, “Lord,
save us! We are perishing!” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, you of
little faith?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was
a dead calm. (Mt 8:24-26)
Jesus was sleeping in the boat.
When there was a storm and the disciples and people feared the worst, Jesus
calmed the sea. When Jesus is with us, we have no fear. While Jesus is with us, we have no fear. He
came to save us. His support will be with us throughout our life. There will be
difficulties, hardships and temptations, but Jesus will not abandon us. He
calms all our storms of life. We need to
travel in his boat and approach him in our storms of life. He is ever ready to
step into our lives and create calmness and serenity in our lives and in the
world.
Do I take Jesus in the boat of my
life?
