God Gives a Second Chance!
15th week Friday in Ordinary Time
Year One
Ex 11:10 -12:14
Meditation
God Gives a Second Chance!
Moses and Aaron performed all
these wonders before Pharaoh, but the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did
not let the people of Israel go out of his land. This day shall be a day of
remembrance for you. You shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord;
throughout your generations you shall observe it as a perpetual ordinance.( Ex
11,14)
Pharaoh heart was hardened; he
would not allow the Israel to go out of Egypt in spite of many Wonders that
Moses and Aaron worked in the name of God. The Lord takes the final chance over
the king Pharaoh and the land of Egypt to let the people of Israel free. He
tells them to celebrate Passover. As the Lord commanded the people of Israel
celebrate the feast of Passover. The Lord passes over the houses that
celebrated the Passover and protects them. “For I will pass through the land of
Egypt that night, and I will strike down every firstborn in the land of Egypt,
both human beings and animals; on all the gods of Egypt I will execute
judgments: I am the Lord” (Ex 12:12). The feast of Passover becomes a great
feast of memory of liberation of people of Israel. The Lord protected them and
they began their journey out of Egypt.
Are we aware that God has his way of
getting things done?
Year Two
Isa 38:1-6, 21-22
God Gives a Second Chance!
Hezekiah was told by Isaiah that
his illness would take him to death. God ordered him to put his household in
order. God warns us to keep our household in order from impending danger and
death. One has to act accordingly to keep order in his/her life. Life warnings are present before every dangerous situation. The Lord is good enough to
show us a way to set things right. Let us see things right as early as possible
and live well.
Hezekiah prayed and cried to the
Lord, and the Lord heard his prayer and gave him another fifteen years to love.
The Lord is kind enough to give us time and possibilities to amend our ways.
The Lord has given us time, and we have to make use of it well to come back to
the Lord. Blessed are the people who consider that they are given a second life
or second chance to live and make an effort to live well for the love of the
Lord.
Do we consider that God has given
most of us a second chance?
Mt 12:1-8
I tell you, something greater
than the temple is here. But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy
and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of
Man is lord of the Sabbath.” (Mt 12:6-8)
We need to accept that Jesus is
omnipotent. He can do everything for us.
He is greater than anyone and greater than any law. In following God and
his ways, we feel that sacrifice is more important than obedience; likewise, sacrifice is more than mercy. The
Lord prefers obedience and mercy, obedience of man to God and God's mercy
towards his people. The Lord is
merciful. Another name for God is Mercy.
Mercy of the Lord envelopes you completely, and it is not a passing
feeling but one of everlasting life.
Do I trust in the mercy of God?
