Year One

 Gen; 23:1-4,19; 24:1-8

Share and Care!

1Now Abraham was old, well advanced in years; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things. 2 Abraham said to his servant, the oldest of his house, who had charge of all that he had, “Put your hand under my thigh 3 and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live, 4 but will go to my country and to my kindred and get a wife for my son Isaac.”(Gen 24:1-4).

Abraham wanted his son Isaac to marry someone from his kindred and wanted the girl to live in the land of the Canaanites. May be faithfulness to his kinder and faithfulness to the land which God has shown him as the promised land. Faithfulness demands one to be integral. As we grow in life and in the spirit of God, we need to become people of integrity. Integrity lets us to give in and take on to things that come in our life. Those who are faithful in little things will be faithful in great things. Spiritual things are not up in air but in the tangible life situations that offer and come in our life as blessings and means of grace to live our life on earth. Let us be faithful to God and to one another.

Can we say we make effort to live life of integrity?

Year Two

Amos 8:4-6, 9-12

In the time of Amos and as well now in the age of AI human beings are on the move to exploit the poor and innocent. Needless to note and say humans are waiting for every opportunity and a good time to exploit the poor and those on the fringes of society. Those who are able and well-to-do can’t be mugged but those who are disadvantaged and weak. Yet time human mind works to exploit the poor, weak and vulnerable.

The Lord will come down heavy on such people. They may prosper in their business and their life. They may even have a so-called comfortable life. There is a limit to human evil actions. If one goes beyond one’s limits one way or the other, he/she has to face the consequences. Nature reacts and when it does it causes havoc in the lives of the trespassers. Live and let live. Good things in life are to be shared and not to be hoarded up.

Are we aware that the injustice caused can be made good by charity?

Mt 9:9-13

Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mt 9:13)

The call of Mathew the evangelist is very dramatic. He was happy collecting taxes and Lord asks him to follow him and he just leaves everything and follows Jesus. Jesus confirms in the case of Mathew and many others that those who have good will can follow him. He has not come for the healthy, but those that are sick. The sick are the poor and sinners. He came not for the righteous, but for sinners and for the lost people of Israel. As humans we are all lost sheep. We lost our original innocence. As we grow old, we also grow in evil and need to be made whole to live our life in joy and peace. So, the Lord does this wonderful work of purifying us to make our soul beautiful and holy.

Do you believe that the Lord came to save the sinners?
