Sts. Martha, Mary and Lazarus

 

17th Week: Ordinary Time Tuesday

Year One

Ex 33:7-11, 34:5-9, 28

And Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. He said, “If now I have found favour in your sight, O Lord, I pray, let the Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people, pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.”( Ex 34:8-9).

God spoke to Moses face-to-face. God was angry, but he promised to forgive and bless the people for their guilt. Moses pleads for the people before God. Moses brings about a very interesting attitude of the people of Israel and the human attitude, i.e. he calls them stiff-necked people. Human ways are wrong, one-sided, hard-hearted and stubborn in going away from God time and again. This attitude is seen vividly today in society, and to an extent, it is seen in our own personal lives. Moses pleads with God to pardon our iniquity and our sin and take us as his inheritance. God makes his heir and his sons; as we are his inheritance, we are heirs to the kingdom of God (Rom 18:17).

Are we aware of God’s loving plan to make us his inheritance?

Jn 11:19-27

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”  “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” (Jn 11:25-27).

Mary is known for sitting at the feet of Jesus and listening to him; an act of prayer and contemplation. Marth was at the service of the Lord, to prepare a meal for him. Marth felt that her sister Mary was not helping her.  But Jesus tells her that sitting by her side is better for her. Lazarus is known for witnessing the manifestation of the power of Jesus.  Mary, listening to Jesus, Marth, serving Jesus and Lazarus, witnessing to Jesus. All their actions towards Jesus are important for us to imitate and to love Jesus.

Do I believe that Jesus it the Resurrection and life?

Follow Jesus!

  First Week Saturday Ordinary Time Saturday Year One Heb 4:12-16 The Word of God is powerful. It can do the impossible and transform people. Let us read the Word of God. As we know, it is inspired and does immense good. Those who read the Word of God will not go astray. It sustains in times of fragility and temptation. Jesus is the supreme high priest.   3 rd February 2024 4th Week: Ordinary Time Monday Heb 11:32-40 Mediations Let us Go on God's Way! Great men and women in the history of God’s plan suffered. Suffering for the cause of God and doing great things for the Lord is no avail. It may not make one perfect in life. Doing great things for God without God’s hand and his way is useless.
