Correcting a Brother!
19th Week Ordinary Time, Wednesday
Year One
Duet 34:1-12
Meditation
Correcting a Brother!
Joshua son of Nun was full of the spirit of
wisdom, because Moses had laid his hands on him; and the Israelites obeyed him,
doing as the Lord had commanded Moses. (Duet 34:9).
Moses dies, and he was buried as
told. Joshua takes up the lead as the leader of Israel. Moses prepared him to
be a leader. He was with him always in leading and guiding the people of
Israel. He was prepared to take over the care of Israel. A nation, institute,
mission is better led by its leaders who prepare the future leaders to take up
the responsibility of leading the mission of God. If the leaders are not
prepared, the mission is a failure. Most effective leaders prepare the leaders
to carry on the mission. Those who love the mission they do not care of their
satisfaction of power but the fulfilment of the mission to see it is carried on
by the effective leaders who are prepared. Moses does prepare Joshua to lead
the people of Israel.
Do we prepare leaders for our
mission?
Year Two
Ezek 9:1-7; 12:18-22
Be Worthy to be Marked by God.
The Lord marks those whom he
wants to save. The houses of Israel were marked with blood before the angel of
the Lord passed over and killed the Egyptian firstborn and saved the Israel
children. The Lord gives protection to those whom he chooses. Protection and
care are made available in many ways. For nothing is impossible to God.
Everything is in the control of God. Let everyone submit to him so the Lord’s
protection may be with us.
Those marked to save were those
who grieve and lament over all the detestable things they have done. One of the
prime ways to receive God’s mercy is to repent for the wrong one has done.
Anyone can fail in living up to the expectations of God’s law, but on a failure,
one should show signs of grief and look forward to God’s mercy. Such persons
are saved by the Church here on earth and in eternity.
Do we grieve over the evil that
we have done?
Mt
18:15-20
Correcting a Brother!
One is at the wrong or in sin, correct him/her personally. Love corrects and gives life; parents correct
with love, and children listen. If the
person whom you have corrected does not listen to you and does not correct
himself, approach him with two or three and let him realize his mistake. Even then, one does not make changes, tell the church or community, so that he or she may
correct himself/herself.
There may be persons who do not learn after all these corrections; leave them be to themselves as tax collectors and Gentiles. We wish this does not happen to our beloved brothers. We hope for their transformation. Let those who condemn and correct their brothers/sisters remember the words of Jesus to the crowd at the woman caught in the act of adultery; the one among you has not sinned, throw the first stone! We know each one's reaction and disappearance from
the scene.
Do I correct as to bear fruit or to destroy?
