Listen to Voice of the Spirit in Us!

21th Week Tuesday in Ordinary

Year One

1 Thess 2:1-8

Meditation

Listen to Voice of the Spirit in Us!

St Paul tells the people of Thessalonica that those who came to preach did not come with their eloquence and knowledge but came because they were sent by God.  They have nothing to preach than what the Lord instructs and inspires.  They are not for name or fame but preach the message of Jesus.  To preach the message of Christ and share what they have with them in the way of knowledge and grace. Even they were willing to share their very selves for the proclamation of the gospel.

Do we agree with St Paul that we have to be selfless to preach the gospel message?

Year Two

2 Thess 2:1-3, 14-17

Listen to Voice of the Spirit in Us!

Every age has false teachings that lead people astray. The Word of God is preached and revealed, and one has to be faithful to it and follow it and not be deceived and misled. St Paul tells the Thessalonians to be careful and live by the Word of God that has been communicated to them in different ways. In moments of wrong teaching, be close to the person of Jesus, encourage each other, and live in good hope in the Lord by doing good deeds and recalling the Words of God.

God has given us a gift to know between good and evil. The Lord has put into our hearts the Word of God and the message of God. The Spirit of God is constantly at work in us. One has to listen to the promptings of the Spirit of God in times of crises and misleading situations. Let us walk by the guidance of the Spirit who is living in us.

Do we listen to the voice of the Spirit in moments of wrong teaching?

Time Mt 23:23-26

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.  You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may become clean. (Mt 23:25-26).

Jesus tells the scribes and Pharisees that they do things for apparent good.  They are satisfied with the outside show. For them, if the outside is good, then everything is good.  It is not supposed to be so. Instead, both the inside and outside have to be clean and good.  It is both the exterior and the interior that matter a lot for life in the world, and much more for spiritual life. An integral life invites a perfect vision of life. To overcome our short-sightedness and live a transparent life, we need to accept the life of Jesus and live accordingly.

Do we notice the hypocrisy in us?
