Pride wrecks life!
20th week Tuesday in Ordinary Time
Year One
Judges 6:11-24
In
this passage, the angel of the Lord appears to Gideon while he is secretly
threshing wheat in a winepress to hide from the oppressive Midianites. The
angel calls him a "mighty warrior" and tells him that God is with him
and will use him to save Israel. Gideon, feeling weak and insignificant,
questions God's presence and power. As a sign of reassurance, Gideon offers a
meal, and the angel miraculously consumes it with fire before disappearing.
Gideon realizes he has seen the angel of the Lord and is terrified, but God
speaks peace over him. You might see your flaws, fears, or failures. But God
sees your potential and His purpose in you.
What
might God be calling out in you today that you don’t yet see in yourself?
Year Two
Ezek 28:1-10
Pride wrecks
life!
A warning to the rulers and those
who are proud. Due to the wisdom, wealth and power, man can feel that he is a
god. God indeed created humans little less than God. But humans are not gods.
The feel of the human powers makes them believe they are gods. This is the root
cause of destruction and pride; it makes them feel they are gods. At this pride
they harm others and to themselves. They are created in the image of God but
not equal to God. Due to the Pride of the king, the prophet prophesied against
the king of Tyre.
The above lesson can be applied
to every person, everyone in power and rule. However great, strong and wise one
may be one has to die. May be yet time a violent death in war. One may have
died in the hands of foreigners and in the sea. Death and end of life which
humans are bound to face should make us humble. God is the eternal one and we
are mortals so keep the end in view and live a life worthy of our calling.
Do we think of our end?
Mt 19:23-30
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I
tell you; it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of
heaven. Again, I tell you; it is easier
for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to
enter the kingdom of God.” (Mt 19:23-24).
We know riches are blessings from
God. When our riches increase, we need to praise God; we also need to think of
the good of others. Many tend to forget God and neglect others when their
wealth increases. They begin to look after themselves, this leads them
wandering away from God and the people. If
we notice, it is among the wealthy there is more loneliness. They use
expensive things but they are not satisfied. They feel emptiness in themselves.
In their riches they ignore God's presence.
Money becomes their God and they think money will get everything for
them. They try to buy power, honour and
happiness with money. Some think it is
possible to buy but it is not possible. That is why it is difficult for the
rich to enter into the kingdom of God. Trust in God and not in money.
Is my wealth an obstacle for me
to enter into Kingdom of God?
