All Things are Created in Him and for Him!
22nd Week Friday in Ordinary Time
Year One
Col 1:15-2
Meditation
All Things are Created in Him and
for Him!
Jesus is visible and invisible, things
in heaven and earth are under his rule and authority, he is the firstborn of creation and the firstborn of the dead.
He is in the beginning and to the end.
He reconciles the universe and humanity to God. He is the ultimate and all powers on earth, under the world, and in heaven, and all obey him. He is the supreme ruler and authority.
We are in his creation, and we are in him, and he is in us. He will not abandon
humans to their will and wish, but gently leads them to the right place of repose. Blessed are those who are under His mighty hand. He will give us peace
and joy which no one can provide. Let us go
to him and submit ourselves to him.
Do we confess that Jesus has ultimate
authority in heaven and earth?
Year Two
1 Cor 4:1-5
You have no Right to Judge Even
Yourself!
We are servants of God who are
entrusted with the mysteries of God and the manifestation of his glory.
Everyone has the responsibility to keep their trust and prove faithful to God.
You may be judged and may not be judged, but may not even be a judge of yourself.
Our conscience may be clear and innocent, but trust the Lord to judge us in
justice.
In the appointed time, the Lord
will judge us and give us due honour and praise for our actions. Do not be too
hard or lenient in judging yourselves, but leave everything to the Lord. The
Lord is the right and just judge who makes us right and blameless in the sight
of God through his passion, death and resurrection. May the mercy of the Lord
be praised.
Do you know that the Lord is the
just Judge?
Lk 5:33-39
Then they said to him, “John’s
disciples, like the disciples of the Pharisees, frequently fast and pray, but
your disciples eat and drink.” Jesus said to them, “You cannot make wedding
attendants fast while the bridegroom is with them, can you? The days will come
when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in
those days.”(Lk 5:33-34)
The practice of fasting and
abstinence is common in almost all religions and cultures. There are spiritual
as well as physical benefits of fasting and abstinence. The fasting, with a
religious motive, helps us to know our nothingness and our need to depend upon
God. It also helps us to give priority to God and helps us to have union with the
Divine. The Pharisees focused only on physical fasting as an obligation. Jesus
goes beyond physical fasting and transcends it. Jesus focuses on inner life
rather than outward observances. The prophet Isaiah invites us to spiritual
fasting. It is an invitation for us to fast from these earthly material things
and seek the things above in heaven. Fasting is a kind of emptying ourselves
from evil things and filling ourselves with holy and heavenly things.
Does my fasting help me to grow closer to my God and my neighbour?
