Be a Witness to the Faith!
23rd week Thursday in Ordinary
Time
Year One
Meditation
Therefore,
as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with
compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear
with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance
against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these
virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let
the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one
body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message
of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another
with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit,
singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you
do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him (Col 3:12-17).
God
calls for a positive way of life in the midst of negativity and evil. Prayer and spirituality bring about the best in human beings. Humans are
drawn to goodness more than evil. The
evil that is in humans can be uprooted with the help of God and primarily through prayer and a positive attitude. The most excellent positive attitude is to love God and love those whom we see around without
any selfish motive. When we love and
respect others, we find joy and happiness.
God’s love let us be free and free others.
Do
we give thought that God’s love can purify us?
Year Two
1 Cor 8:1b-7, 11-13
Be a Witness to the Faith!
One may eat and drink even the
food offered to other gods, for there is only one God in heaven. Some people
offer food to the idols, and they are not true gods; they are only idols. We
have only one God in heaven, and Jesus, the Son of God, was born through the power
of the Holy Spirit. One may live like a free child of the Father in heaven. But
due to those who are weak in faith and life, it is better not to eat the food
offered to idols.
We must lead those weak in faith
on the right path. Those who have just come to the way of the Lord as new
believers would be scandalized if those who are strong in faith eat the food
that is offered to the other gods. As we know, there is excellent value in witnessing to those who are young in faith and weak in faith.
Do take care to be witness to the
young in faith?

Do Good to Others!
The other is a pain in the neck. The gospel
reminds us that the other has to be forgiven and has to be respected, regarded
and loved. The purpose of life is to love
God and love others. The greatest commandment
and the essence of the teaching of Jesus is to love God and love others. One may love God but may find it difficult to love
one's brothers and sisters. The art of loving
God, others, and oneself is a lifelong process.
Do we learn
the art of love as God wants us to love?
