The Parable of the Sower Explained!

24th week Saturday in Ordinary Time

Year One

1 Tim 6:13-16

In the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep the commandment without spot or blame until the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ,  which he will bring about at the right time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords. 16 It is he alone who has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see; to him be honour and eternal dominion. Amen.(1 Tim 6:13-16).

Meditation

One needs to keep family rules to be happy. One needs to follow community laws to live happily. A Christian has to learn to keep the commandments of God to live happy on earth and enter into heaven. Precepts, rules, laws and commandments are ways to live and love; they are not to curb us or to destroy us. Keep the laws and commandments, and it is very important to know the laws of life and the commandments of God. Let us think and meditate on whether we keep the laws of community and the commandments of God. If one learns to keep God’s commandments, they will live in light, will have honour, will have joy in life, will enjoy immortal life and will have eternal life.

What are the laws and commandments that are easy to follow?

Year Two

1 Cor 15:35-37, 42-49

St Paul uses the analogy of a seed: just as a seed must die to produce new life, so too our earthly body must be "sown" (buried) to be raised transformed. What is sown is perishable, dishonourable, and weak, but what is raised is imperishable, glorious, and powerful.

The scripture of today challenges our earthly assumptions about life, death, and identity.  St Paul reminds us that the resurrection is not about resuscitating our old bodies but transforming them into something new—just as a plant looks nothing like the seed it came from.

The resurrection is not just a doctrine; it is a hope that reshapes how we live today. We are not destined for decay, but for glory. The way a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, so too will we be transformed. And that transformation begins now, as we grow into the image of Christ.

Are we aware that the belief in resurrection will change our lives?

Lk 8:4-15

The Parable of the Sower Explained!

“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.  The ones on the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.  The ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe only for a while and in a time of testing fall away.  As for what fell among the thorns, these are the ones who hear, but as they go on their way, they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.  But as for that in the good soil, these are the ones who, when they hear the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart and bear fruit with endurance. (Lk 8:11-15)

Meditation

The seeds that fell on the path remind us that the word of God is eaten by birds or trampled.   The seeds that fell on the rock soil, germinate but die soon, so the word begins to take root but dies soon.  The seeds that fell in the thorny bushes grow, but they are choked by the bushes, and they do not produce anything. The seeds that fell on the good soil grow well and give good results.  The Word of God does the same in our hearts.  That Word of God is given to us, but what happens to us in our hearts? Does it die?  In the same way, our relationship with Jesus and with others.  We begin something good but are not able to continue because we are weak, have no motivation, and face trials and temptations.  Being aware of our difficulties allows us to depend on the grace of God, which helps us produce good fruit.

How do I look at the World and the Word of God with the mind of Jesus?
