God Gives Us Manifold Gifts!
God gives
humans manifold gifts. God gives to those whom he loves a Christian vocation.
Christian vocation is holy and joyful. It is so because Christians are called
to follow the teaching of Christ. The teaching of Jesus is loving God, loving
oneself and loving others. It is very simple but difficult to practice. St Pual
in today’s reading explains how to love.
“Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love
one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honour. Do not
lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient
in suffering, persevere in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints;
extend hospitality to strangers. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do
not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be
haughty, but associate with the lowly;[b] do not claim to be wiser than you
are.” (Rom 12:9-16).
Can you be a
model of an authentic Christian?
Year Two
Phil 2:5-11
Jesus Emptied Himself!
Though he was in the form of God,
he did not count equality with God as a thing to be grasped. Instead, he
emptied himself and took the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of
men. He humbled himself and was obedient even to the point of death on the
cross, like a criminal. God raised him in every way to adore him and confess
that Jesus Christ the Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The mystery of life consists of
self-emptying. Those who have humbled themselves to the Lord will be great.
They give glory to God, and God will bless them. We think greatness consists of
power, position, and wealth. It is true to a certain extent, but real joy and
dignity cannot be bought with worldly means. Letting go of things and means is
a way to get closer to God and others.
Do we consider humility and
nothingness in the world as means to holiness?
Gospel Lk
14:15-25
Blessed is the
One who Eats at the Table of the Lord!
A marriage feast
is ready, and the invitation is given to a few, but they have an excuse. Some
did not accept because they had something to do. The master of the marriage
feast tells the servants to invite all those in the streets, and still there
was room. Then the master tells them Fill my banqueting hall with people, for
those who are invited will not taste the food.
The Lord is
kind; he gives us an invitation to the good things of life. Humans are lost in the game of life, and they
look for happiness in the wrong places. True happiness is with the Lord and
being with him. Blessed are those who are in communion with God and communion
with the community of God. No one can save oneself. We are saved in a
community.
Are we aware
that human life is celebrated in being in communion with God?
