Preach Christ!
31st Week Friday in Ordinary Time
Year One
Rom 15:14-21
Meditation
Preach Christ!
St Paul is
given grace to be an Apostle of the Gentiles. Being a Jew, he became a preacher
and teacher of Jesus to outside Jewish circles. St Paul was convinced that it
was grace given to him to preach Christ. He boasts about his weakness and the
power of God at work in him. He boasts about his ministry to the Gentiles. The
work he did was for the name of Jesus. He is ambitious about preaching the Good
News to the nations. St. Paul says, "Woe to me if I do not preach the Good
News." He was full of Christ. He has nothing else to do than to preach and
make known the message of Jesus. His knowledge and experience of Christ is so
deep that he was able to communicate to the people so well in those days to
form Christ in them. St. Paul encourages us to be transformed by Christ and to have
the mind of Christ in each one of us.
In what way would
we like to proclaim Christ to the world?
Year Two
Phil 3:17-4:1
Meditation
Stand Firm in Christ!
Today's youth are longing for
role models in every walk of life. St Paul is exhorting the community of the
Philippines to set their eyes on persons of example. One can present oneself as
an excellent person, but to set an example in faith and life is difficult.
Parents are the best role models. They may not have the best education, but
they have the wisdom, love and sacrifice of their parents. Everyone should set
an example of faith in God. A life of faith has to be manifested and witnessed.
We are citizens of heaven. We are
not just matter and body. Let's not set our end for destruction, making our
belly as God and our shame as glory. Let us look forward to transcending this
earthly life into a glorious life that awaits us. For St Paul, the community
looks for joy and a crown and to stand firm in Jesus Christ.
Do we stand firm in Jesus?
Lk 16:1-8
Be Wise!
And his master commended the
dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly, for the children of this age
are shrewder in dealing with their own generation than are the children of
light (Lk 16:8).
Do good to people, and it will
come back to you. Jesus appreciates the manager's shrewd action. The Lord
presents him as a model to us for the Kingdom of God. We know how to manage
things in this world. Remember, the good you do in times of authority will come
to your aid. If so, how much shrewder should we be about things concerning the
Kingdom of God?
Am I wise to work and enter the
Kingdom of God?
