Implore Jesus to Heal!

First Week Thursday Ordinary Time

Implore Jesus to Heal!

 Year One

Heb 3:7-14

Meditation

The Spirit of God is at work in everyone. The Spirit of God leads us on the right path. If one is not careful, one can harden one’s heart and disobey the Spirit of God. One has to take care not to go against the Spirit of God.

Let no one fall into the deceit of evil and disobey the Spirit of God. To fall into the deceit of evil and not follow the Spirit of God is to fall into sin. We have to hold firm confidence in Jesus. Jesus overcame the evil one and accomplished the will of God in his life. We have to place our trust in Jesus and follow his path to eternal life.

Do we obey the Spirit of God?

Year Two

1 Sam 4:1-10

Meditation

In the word of God today, the Philistines defeated Israel in the battle, and they even captured the Ark. We know the Ark is the presence of God for Israel. The defeat in the battle is a sign that the Lord was with them. Though the Ark was with Israel, they lost. Many men of Israel were killed in the battle. At the news of Ark being captured by the Philistines and the death of son Eli, Eli dies, and the daughter-in-law and wife of Phinehas gives birth to a male child and dies, saying, 'Gone is the glory from Israel.'

Certain happenings in life indeed signify the glory of the people and persons going away. There could be many reasons for the glory to go away from people and persons. Let us remember the Lord who gives everything. God will not abandon us in defeat, failure, sickness, loss, death, and life. As we take victory from God, we need to take loss, defeat, and humiliation from the hand of the Lord.

Are we ready to take defeat in life?

Gospel: Mk 1:40-45

A leper came to him begging him, and kneeling, he said to him, ‘If you choose, you can make me clean.’ Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand, touched and said to him, ‘I do choose. Be made clean!’ Immediately, the leprosy left him, and he was made clean.

Leprosy is a deadly sickness at the time of Jesus. In the time of Jesus, it was considered more deadly because of a lack of proper medical knowledge and medicine.  It had no cure in those days. They had to live with the sickness outside the village and die with it. They had no hope of getting well. Jesus cures such a sickness and gives life, hope and health. When we kneel down before God and beg him for what we need, he will not only cure us of bodily illnesses but even our illnesses of mind, heart, spirit and soul.

Do we implore Jesus to heal our illnesses?
