Follow the Law of God!

19th Week Ordinary Time, Saturday

Year One

Josh 24:14-29

“Now therefore revere the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods that your ancestors served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.  Now if you are unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Josh 24:14-15

In the Old Testament, the concern of Moses, Aran and Joshua was to protect Israel from worshipping other gods. God made us. we belong to him. He is our beginning and end. We exist because of God and have our being. The God who created us has given us freedom to create our own false gods and find shelter under the false gods. In the history of Israel, they created their own gods to satisfy their need for projection and ego. Thus, they went away from God and became slaves to evil and enemies to one another. If we are not careful, even today we can create our own gods and worship them. Such a worship of humans made gods can leads to destruction of life and spiritual life. Let us not create false gods of pride, ego and selfishness.

Do we have check on ourselves to know the false gods we create?

Year Two

Ezekiel 18:1-10

Follow the Law of God!

Sin causes harm to others. Sin makes one sick and leads to death. Everyone is invited to a righteous life. One may not be able to live without sin, but one can certainly work towards sanctifying oneself in holiness. All those who have gone astray must realize the wrong they have done and return to the right path. God gives his grace in our struggle to overcome evil and sin.

As the scripture says: do right and just, do not be defiled, do not oppress, pay back your dues, be generous to others in food, clothing and shelter, do not exploit the poor unjustly, follow the law and let the law be practised for good. Those who follow the law of God, for love of God and love of others will be blessed and righteous in the sight of God.

Do we keep the laws of God?

Mt 19:13-15

Then little children were being brought to him in order that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples spoke sternly to those who brought them; but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” And he laid his hands on them and went on his way. (Mt 19:13-15)

Jesus loved little children. He allowed them to come to him. He blessed them. He said that the kingdom of heaven belongs to those who are like little children. Children are blessings to the families. They teach us many lessons for life. They bring joy and happiness to the family. They, many a time, unite the families that tend to break easily. Parents make sacrifices for the good of the children. They are not contributors for economy but they contribute to life and values of kingdom of God. They are signs of heaven to the world.

Do we consider that every child is blessing for the world?
