March 10 Meditation: Teach Me Your Way!

Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths (Ps 25:4).

The Spiritual Works of Mercy are traditional acts in Christianity that encourage helping others in their spiritual and moral life. They come from long Christian tradition and were emphasized by thinkers like Thomas Aquinas. The seven Spiritual Works of Mercy: Instruct the ignorant: Help people learn the truth, especially about faith, morality, and living a good life. Counsel the doubtful: Guide people who are confused or struggling to make the right decision. Admonish the sinner: Correct someone who is doing wrong, with charity and care. Bear wrongs patiently: Endure injustice or hurt without revenge. Forgive offenses willingly: Forgive those who have hurt you, following the example of Jesus Christ. Comfort the afflicted: Support and encourage people who are grieving, suffering, or discouraged. Pray for the living and the dead: Intercede for others in prayer, asking God to help them. Simple way to remember them is as: teaching, guiding, correcting, forgiving, enduring, comforting, and praying. Fr Putti Anthaiah Sdb

  33rd    week Thursday in Ordinary Time Year One 1 Macc 2:15-29 Meditation God Gives Courage to Follow His Laws! Mattathias and sons were asked to give up the law of the their ancestor but they chose not to give up the law of God.   Some are given zest and zeal for the law of God and his commandments. Mattathias and sons were ready to suffer and fight against the king taking extreme step to attack the king’s official instead of giving up the law they learned and valued for life. This great zeal and love for the love of God’s law shows their commitment to God and values of life.  ]The committed life of Mattathias and sons shows the human beings love for God and for his law. Humans are not just weak and fragile persons. Love of God’s rule and command can give humans immense strength and determination and even to give up life for the law of God.   Human life is nothing in the pursuit of the path of following God’s law and rule. The Lord is My Light!

  December 5 Meditation The Lord is My Light! Ps 27:1 The Lord is my light and my Salvation: whom shall I fear? The Lord is the Stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Ps 27:1) We see in the light things clearly. We have clarity of things in the light, and we make right judgement of things in the light. The external light makes the vision clear.   The internal light of the mind enables us to make right decisions.   The one who possess the light will have Salvation and need not have any fear of darkness.   There is fear in darkness. The fear of darkness should lead us to seek and be in the light of the Lord. The Lord, who is light, will be with us to accompany us along the path of eternity. Do we seek light or darkness?
